Most shopfront and shutter companies get work from word of mouth and repeat trade. That's great — until it goes quiet. SEO fixes that by making your phone ring with people who are searching right now for exactly what you fit. Here's how to do it properly.
Start with the searches that actually bring jobs
Your customers don't search the clever industry terms — they search plain, urgent phrases. The money keywords for this trade usually look like:
- "shopfront installers near me" and "shop front installation [town]"
- "roller shutter repair [town]" — repair searches are high-intent and convert fast
- "security shutters for shops", "electric roller shutters", "shopfront glazing"
- "emergency shutter repair" — urgent, high-value, low competition locally
Build a simple list of every service you offer crossed with every town you cover. Each of those combinations is a page you could rank — and a job you could win.
Give every service and every area its own page
One "Services" page trying to rank for everything will rank for nothing. Google wants a specific page for a specific need. At minimum you want:
- A dedicated page for each service: shopfronts, roller shutters, security shutters, shutter repairs, glazing.
- A page for each main town/city you serve (e.g. "Roller Shutters Birmingham").
- Real photos of your jobs — before/after sells better than stock images and builds trust with Google and customers.
Win the map pack (this is where local jobs come from)
For local trades, the Google Business Profile "map pack" often gets more clicks than the normal results. To climb it:
- Fully complete your Google Business Profile — services, areas, photos, opening hours.
- Get reviews consistently. Ask every happy customer; even one a week compounds fast.
- Keep your name, address and phone number identical everywhere online (your site, directories, social). Inconsistency confuses Google and costs rankings.
Make the page easy to act on
Ranking is only half the job — the page has to convert. Put your phone number top-right, add a short quote form, show your service area, and include trust signals (years in business, insurance, accreditations, reviews). A visitor should be able to call or request a quote in one tap.
The technical basics that matter
You don't need to be a developer, but make sure your site: loads fast on mobile, has a clear title and description on every page, uses proper headings, and has structured data so Google understands you're a local business. These quietly lift rankings and help you appear in rich results and AI answers.
How long does it take?
Local and "near me" wins can show in weeks. Competitive city-wide rankings usually build over 3–6 months of consistent content, reviews and links. The firms that win are simply the ones that keep at it month after month.
